Start with the statement summary

Every processing statement has a Summary page that breaks fees into: discount rate, transaction fees, monthly fees, gateway/PCI fees, and incidentals (chargebacks, retrievals, returns).

Common fees that look "unexpected" but aren't

  • PCI Compliance fee β€” quarterly or annual. Usually $99–$149. Required for all merchants.
  • Monthly Minimum fee β€” if you don't process enough volume, a minimum is charged.
  • Statement fee β€” paper statement, ~$5–$10/mo if not opted to digital.
  • Batch fee β€” $0.05–$0.25 per batch closed.
  • Interchange increases β€” Visa/Mastercard adjust rates twice a year (April + October). Often shows as "Rate Adjustment".
